Qualitative research

Qualitative research is asking closed questions that collects a little bit more information than quantitative research collects. qualitative research asks questions that you can answer a lot more than just 'yes' or 'no', and it gets into more detail and asks who ,what ,when and where. For example you could ask a question like ,what type of gaming console do you have?'. It is important to the media industry as they need to know why people liked something or didn't like something, If they didn't like something they could make it better next time to increase sales/views/hits.

The advantages of qualitative research:

  • Uses subjective information
  • Explores new areas of research
  • provides face to face indicators

The disadvantages of qualitative research:
  • relatively small numbers
  • very time consuming
Qualitative research is important to the social media industry because they want to know how many views and likes there YouTube video got and in the comments thy id out what people thought of the video did they like it and if not why and what could they do to make it better . For example if there was a new TV program out and the makers of the TV program wanted to know what every one thinks they could make a # on twitter so that when the tv program finished the producers would see wat everyone thought and if they didnt like it they what woul they want to see.
