Quantitative Research

Quantitative research is all about receiving information about rating and numbers. you can ask questions like 'how much time?' or how many people?' for example you could ask how many people have got a playstation 4? or How much sleep do you get a day?. Some examples of quantitative information are:

  • TV ratings
  • Sales figures on video games
  • Listener figures of for the radio
  • Number of hits on a website
  • Readership figures of a newspaper/magazine 
Social media is also included in quantitative research like Facebook and twitter for example twitter records how many re-tweets  you got on a tweet and how many people favorited that tweet Facebook records how many likes you got on a post.


Quantitative research is all about getting answers with numbers and about ratings . For example the image above shows that BBC Radio 1 had 10795,000 people listening to there radio station in the UK in June 2014 . 

The advantages of quantitative research:
  • Answers questions such as 'how much?' and 'how many?' 
  • Provides more of a decision making the conformation.
The disadvantages of quantitative research:
  • It is more expensive and takes more time
  • fixed questionnaire structure
